Rajatila is Susanna Leinonen Company’s new, deeply moving contemporary dance work that explores the visible and invisible boundaries shaping our lives. The piece continues the company’s series created with older performers and forms its fifth independent part.
Choreographer Tatiana Urteva is interested in the physical and emotional strength of bodies that have lived a full life: movement, rhythm, and expression shaped by decades of experience. Rajatila invites us to reflect on how psychological and physical boundaries guide everyday life, how they are tested, and how they ultimately shape who we are.
On stage, expressive older performers meet professional dancers. The life experience and embodied wisdom of the older participants intertwine with the dancers’ physicality and precision, creating a powerful and touching whole.
Rajatila is a work about humanity, change, and resilience. It challenges ideas of what dance can look like and who gets to create it.
The work is part of the City of Helsinki’s project to promote cultural activities for older people.
