Susanna Leinonen Company Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary Year

Susanna Leinonen Company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a diverse and surprising programme. This milestone will be celebrated together with audiences. The spring programme will culminate in June with Mozart Mozart at Dance House Helsinki.

In March, the collaborative work Rajatila will premiere, bringing together professional dancers and older people. It is part of the Dance Art for Older People project supported by the City of Helsinki. Pain Killer, which received glowing reviews last autumn, will go on tour. The work will be seen in May at Hämeenlinna Theatre and in July at the Black and White Theatre Festival in Imatra.

The work Mozart Mozart by internationally acclaimed choreographer Luca Signoretti will have its Finnish premiere in June at the Erkko Hall of Dance House Helsinki. The piece was originally created for the dance company of Theater Regensburg, and will now receive a completely new version interpreted by the dancers of Susanna Leinonen Company.

“I am truly excited about Signoretti’s visit. It is wonderful to offer the company’s dancers the opportunity to work with an international choreographer here in Finland. Encounters like these open up new perspectives and create fruitful artistic dialogue,” says artistic director Susanna Leinonen.

The work features both international and Finnish talents: Rebekka Guðmundsdóttir, Kang Ma, Katariina Luukas, Kasperi Kolehmainen, Joanna Salmikannas, Marie da Silva, Sam Vaherlehto and Waltteri Voitila.

“During the company’s history, I have created a new work every year as well as several commissioned works for international companies. In this anniversary year, I want to focus even more strongly on new openings and opportunities for collaboration. This year offers a chance to expand the company’s activities and build new kinds of partnerships that enrich artistic thinking and working methods,” Susanna Leinonen reflects.

The anniversary year will be celebrated together with audiences, as, for example, in connection with Rajatila on Friday 27 March, the celebrations will continue after the performance. The audience is invited to join the artistic director and the working group for dancing together in a relaxed and communal atmosphere.

The autumn programme for the anniversary year will be published in April.
