SEE | OBEY premiere on Saturday November 14th at 7 pm, performances until November 22th

The new contemporary dance piece for three dancers, SEE | OBEY by Susanna Leinonen Company that is premiered on Saturday November 14th 2015, is a powerful synthesis of film, dance, music and text. The themes rise from the use of power, the fleeting nature of time and obedience. The texts, written specifically for this piece by author and dramaturge Jukka Viikilä, are rational in their own absurdity and are connected with the piece through contrasts. The texts are voiced by Finnish frontline actors Laura Birn, Sanna-Kaisa Palo and Emmi Parviainen.

SEE | OBEY is dance about the absurdism of life. The dark themes of Leinonen still rise from the reverse side of life but the new piece finds a brighter angle and even touches some borders of humour. The piece opens a window to the world whose lines only dance and movement can draw and who receives a full form through the imaginative music, illogically rational texts and eye-pleasing visuals.

The dancers of SEE | OBEY are Sanni Giordani, Misa Lommi and Natasha Lommi. The soundscape of the piece is designed by the rap/hip hop -artist Kasperi Laine, the costume design is by Erika Turunen and the light design by Joonas Tikkanen.

SEE | OBEY is not only a dance piece by Susanna Leinonen but also a dance film by Leinonen and Jouka Valkama. The video art of Valkama has been an important part of the pieces of Leinonen but this time the film both blends in as part of the stage piece and forms an independent story. SEE | OBEY film tells simultaneously three different narratives about human emotions, every day events and conflicts by physical expression and movement. The time is manipulated by cinematic means and the moments that happen in a blink of an eye get a new depth with slow motion. The film uses both several professional dancers and almost a hundred volunteers.

The premiere of SEE | OBEY is in The Cultural Centre Stoa in Helsinki on November 14th2015 at 19h.
