The dancer is not an object!

NOKO (Nordiska Koreografier) is a Nordic co-operation project that was initiated by Frank Andersen, the artistic director of the Danish Royal Ballet. NOKO is hosted in Sweden by the Swedish Royal Ballet and features choreographers Ina Christel Johannessen (Norway), Kim Brandstrup (Denmark), Susanna Leinonen (Finland) and Birgitta Egerbladh (Sweden).

… The very promising dancers Jeannette Diaz-Barboza and Alexander Nikolaev were highlighted as creative subjects by Susanna Leinonen, whose intricate deconstructive choreographic language has a refreshing contemporary Finnish punk/goth feeling. The title Chinese Objects – perhaps a reference to the Chinese obsession with all that is elaborate and artificial – fits well with the duet, which consists of very slow and very elaborate movement sequences that deconstruct and reconstruct the body, gradually becoming solos and parallel dance. Like objects d´art, the dancers are encased in a suggestive light (Steven Scott) and soundscape (Kasperi Laine).
